Ranking among Canada’s top universities, the University of Waterloo, located in Waterloo, Ontario, plays hosts to 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 120 countries – proving its reputation as a favourite for internationals seeking higher education in Canada.

Waterloo is a small city with a large student population, and close ties to some of the indigenous peoples of Canada – respect for the traditional territory upon which it is established is one of the university norms, revealing much about the values it stands for.

Waterloo is best known for its programmes in mathematics, engineering, and computer science – nicknamed the “MIT of the North”, Waterloo has a reputation for world-class computer sciences programmes, cemented by illustrious alumni like the founder of Blackberry.   • Eligibility Criteria

The general requirement for entry into an undergraduate programme are a First or Second Division standing in – All India Senior School Certificate awarded by CBSE, the Indian School Certificate awarded by CISCE, or another pre-university certificate awarded after 12 years of studies. Each programme has specific minimum marks requirements.

Language requirement: Students who have received education in the medium of English for the 4 most recent years prior to admissions are exempt from English Proficiency tests. For those who have not, TOEFL or IELTS is required.

  • Costs and Funding

For international students, tuition fees average between 33,000-40,000 CAD, depending on the programme, plus approximately 2,290 CAD for related books and supplies.

Waterloo offers a number of scholarships available to both domestic and international students. The University of Waterloo International Student Scholarships are available to international students admitted to undergraduate programs, each valued at 10,000 CAD, subject to merit-based criteria.

Deadlines for submission of applications for admission are in February or April (depending on the programme), for intake of the same year, with classes commencing in September.
